WIRRAL SOCCERLOCO ENTER FIRST TOURNAMENT

Wirral Soccerloco  played in their first competitive tournament last Thursday at Cheshire FA Headquarters in Northwich. They took part in Cheshire Walking Football's ongoing mini league sessions spring season which will run from March until May. The league is split up into two divisions - Premier and Championship - Wirral entering the latter as newcomers to the league. Vastly different from the indoor Soccerloco pitches, Cheshire FA's have goal lines, touchlines and are larger in area. The division consists of 5 teams who all play each other.

After a very credible draw in the first game against Northgate Rovers (only the post denying Wirral a win), Wirral lost the next game to Nantwich Barony who were helped by the awarding of a very dubious penalty by an amateur referee to get them going. The third game against Northwich was a bit of an eye opener to the quality in this league and Wirral finally went down 0-3. They got back on track in the final game against Chester FC where again only the thickness of a post denied them a draw. The idea of everyone gaining game time and experience worked very well. Wirral Soccerloco were never outplayed and everyone enjoyed the occasion. Congratulations go to Heather Campbell who was the first female player to appear in the Cheshire Walking Football League. She was also made captain for the day in honour of this achievement.

Thanks go to Dave Rogers for performing the player / manager role at the last minute. Also to the Registration Secretary George Brady for ensuring all the fixtures were completed and recorded. Thanks also to Paul Ward at Soccerloco in Bromborough for his continued support and help.
