WIRRAL SOCCERLOCO FINISH LEAGUE SPRING SEASON

The third and final phase of the Cheshire F.A. Walking Football League took place on Thursday 19th May 2016 at Cheshire F.A. Headquarters in Northwich. Wirral Soccerloco were again in attendance and on this occasion met with varying degrees of success. Three defeats by the odd goal and a draw did not reflect on how good the performance actually was, and all four games were eminently winnable. A few different formations were tried out on the day, but the general idea was to give all ten participants game time. Nev R broke our goalscoring duck with a very well taken shot against Chester F.C. which went in via the post. Everyone performed OK on the day, but special mention must go to Frank H who was a stalwart in defence and hardly put a foot wrong. Special mention also must go to Andy J, who decided to retire from competitive walking football after the event, and will now be installed as Wirral Walking Football Club's (Wirral Soccerloco) full-time manager along with all the benefits and remunerations that the job entails. The board, having considered other applications from, in particular Josie M and Claudia R, felt Andy should be rewarded for all his hard work over the past two years.

SUCCESS FOR WIRRAL SOCCERLOCO IN WALKING FOOTBALL LEAGUE

The second instalment of the Cheshire F.A. Walking Football League Spring 2016 season took place at Northwich on Thursday 21st April 2016. Wirral Soccerloco were again proud to field a team and after initially securing only one point at the first Championship round, managed to increase that to six points at the completion of the second phase. A win over Chester and draws with Northwich and Nantwich were well deserved with only a defeat to Northgate Rovers, initiated by a fiercely deflected shot, slightly souring the day. With only nine fit players to choose from, owing to Kevin's injury, the team played to a system which worked very well on the day. Kev (the one who looks a bit like Jurgen Klopp on the photo) was not to be left out and stood in as temporary manager, efficiently directing operations from the sidelines. The performance leaves Soccerloco only two points adrift of Chester in fourth place. Congratulations to all involved for their support and dedication

WIRRAL SOCCERLOCO ENTER FIRST TOURNAMENT

Wirral Soccerloco  played in their first competitive tournament last Thursday at Cheshire FA Headquarters in Northwich. They took part in Cheshire Walking Football's ongoing mini league sessions spring season which will run from March until May. The league is split up into two divisions - Premier and Championship - Wirral entering the latter as newcomers to the league. Vastly different from the indoor Soccerloco pitches, Cheshire FA's have goal lines, touchlines and are larger in area. The division consists of 5 teams who all play each other.

After a very credible draw in the first game against Northgate Rovers (only the post denying Wirral a win), Wirral lost the next game to Nantwich Barony who were helped by the awarding of a very dubious penalty by an amateur referee to get them going. The third game against Northwich was a bit of an eye opener to the quality in this league and Wirral finally went down 0-3. They got back on track in the final game against Chester FC where again only the thickness of a post denied them a draw. The idea of everyone gaining game time and experience worked very well. Wirral Soccerloco were never outplayed and everyone enjoyed the occasion. Congratulations go to Heather Campbell who was the first female player to appear in the Cheshire Walking Football League. She was also made captain for the day in honour of this achievement.

Thanks go to Dave Rogers for performing the player / manager role at the last minute. Also to the Registration Secretary George Brady for ensuring all the fixtures were completed and recorded. Thanks also to Paul Ward at Soccerloco in Bromborough for his continued support and help.
